MIRO at JANE KAHAN GALLERY
JOAN MIRO (1893 - 1983) is one of the great artists of the 20th Century. Born in the Catalan region of Spain, Miro's prodigious output included paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, tapestries and stage designs. He was also a renown printmaker. Miro published his first prints in 1928 when he was thirty five years old. For the next half century he used virtually every technique of the printer's art to expand his creativity, breaking rules and defining new directions every step along the way. His unique iconographic images represent a simplicity and humanity that are universally recognized and appreciated.
While the JANE KAHAN GALLERY deals in Miro tapestries, paintings and sculpture, we are internationally known for our outstanding collection of high-quality Miro prints, particularly the large and important Etchings-Aquatint-Carbordundums, as well as examples of the better lithographs.

Miro's prints are not reproductions of paintings but "multiple originals" created by the artist. Condition is a paramount concern when it comes to prints and Miro forgeries are not unknown. Unless a collector is thoroughly knowledgeable about this complex market, he would do well to consider pursuing this artist with a respected art dealer whose expertise includes fine prints.
Buying art long distance -- whether by mail, over the phone or through the Internet -- is problematic. The JANE KAHAN GALLERY does not quote prices except to established clients, nor can we provide informal estimates of pieces that you may own (though we do perform written Miro Appraisals for a fee). Our function is to help our clients acquire the works of art that best suit their tastes and pocketbooks. That is why we seek a direct relationship that will better help us to understand your needs.
Please give us a call to discuss your specific needs. If you plan to come to New York in the near future, we'd be happy to set up an appointment so that we can get to know one another. Or just drop by when you're in the neighborhood. We look forward to hearing from you.
