SCULPTURE at Jane Kahan Gallery

Marino Marini Horseman, bronze, marble, appraisalSculpture is one of the most challenging media, and one in which the JANE KAHAN GALLERY has decades of experience.

Whether it is an Alexander Calder mobile or a Renoir bust, we can give private collectors the same opportunities and resources previously available only to professionals. Antecedents of our gallery go back to the 1950s, when Alexander Kahan, a dealer to other dealers, helped form the collection of industrialist and collector Armand Hammer, and others.

In addition to top Modern masters like Calder, Marino Marini, Henry Moore, Niki de St Phalle, Karel Appel and other sculptors from Arp to Zadkine., we continue to deal in earlier artists and we have a special relationship with the contemporary French sculptor, Etienne.

Collectors today must consider complex issues ranging from condition to provenance to authenticity, which makes it even more important to have the advice and guidance of a trusted expert.

Niki de Saint Phalle - sculptureFor over fifty years the Jane Kahan Gallery has helped decorators, architects, museums and private individuals buy and sell important sculpture. Contrary to what the media can lead people to believe these days, art is not a commodity. Not all Picassos were created equal. Price and value are different things, no matter what the trend of the moment suggests. We try to help our clients understand the difference, and to develop their own connoisseurship.

Buying art long distance — whether by mail, over the phone or through the Internet — is problematic. The Jane Kahan Gallery does not quote prices except to established clients, nor can we provide informal estimates of pieces that you may own (though we do perform written Sculpture Appraisals for a fee).

Our function is to help our clients acquire the works of art that best suit their tastes and pocketbooks. That is why we seek a direct relationship that will better help us to understand your needs. Please give us a call to discuss your specific needs. If you plan to come to New York in the near future, we’d be happy to set up an appointment so that we can get to know one another. Or just drop by when you’re in the neighborhood. We look forward to hearing from you.
